Meditation on the book of Joshua

It has been for some time since i las blogged. After the encouragement by a friend, decided to blog about something I learnt today in the service. Currently, the sermon series is on the book of Joshua and it really struck me in the aspect of how the Lord led Joshua and His army into success. The interesting thing is that God already promised that He will give them the land but why did he still want them to fight for the land and told them to conquer the land in an unusual manner. So after discussion in cg, we agreed that in the Bible there are so many promises that are given to us. However, usually there is a role that we have to play in in order to claim those promises. We are playing an active not passive role. Just like how in John, chapter 15. God promises to remain in Him and He will remain in us. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. So, I learnt to claim upon the promises in His Word at the same time playing an active role. Especially when it comes to the aspect of sin, we need to be quick to repent and move on and claim upon his forgiveness in 1 John 1: 1-9. Indeed, God's grace gives providence for us to sin and repent. So, I am still living in His grace. Yet, at the same time, because He is a holy God, He does tolerate sin and there are many instances in the Word that people are punished because of this sin. Do we say that it is not fair? Indeed, as I continue to read the book of Joshua, I learn and learn more about the character of our heavenly father and reveals how sinful our human nature is. May the Lord continue to help me to be more and more like Him as I continue walking in step with the Holy Spirit.
